Mercury Retrograde 2026–2028

Three or four times a year, Mercury appears to stop in the sky and move backward through the zodiac for about three weeks. It does not really reverse: Mercury orbits the Sun faster than the Earth, and as it passes between us and the Sun, our changing point of view makes it look as if it were going back. Astronomers call this apparent retrograde motion.

In astrology Mercury rules communication, travel, contracts and technology, so a retrograde is traditionally a time to slow down, double-check and revisit rather than launch: reread messages, confirm bookings, back up files and give old plans a second look. It is not a reason to panic or to put your life on hold.

The shadow is the stretch of the zodiac Mercury covers three times: once before the retrograde, once backward and once again after it turns direct. The pre-retrograde shadow begins when Mercury first reaches the degree where it will later turn direct; the post-retrograde shadow ends when it gets back to the degree where the retrograde began. Every date below is calculated from the JPL ephemeris and shown in New York time (ET).

Yes — Mercury is retrograde until November 13, 2026.
